This endocrine gland is pea like and  located below brain. This endocrine gland is called "Master gland" because it's hormones control the secretions of other endocrine glands of body.

The hormones released by this endocrine gland and their functions are -

                       Hormone
          Functions
Growth hormone or Somtatotrophic hormone (STH)
Promotes growth of body. Less secretion causes "dwarfism" and hyper-secretion causes “Acromegaley”.
TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

Simulates production of thyroxine from thyroid gland.
ACTH (Adreno-cortico-trophic hormone )
Stimulates adrenal cortex to produce hormones.
Luteinising Hormone (LH)
Controls the ovulation in female.
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
Stimulates gamete production in gonads
Prolcatin
Stimulatesgrowth of mammary glands and milk production.
Oxytocin
Stimulates labor pain and milk ejection after birth .
Vassopressin (ADH)
Regulates water and salt balance during urine formation.
